Tragedy befell Ngo’ndu village business centre in Njoro, Nakuru, on Monday evening after a gambling spree went sour.
25-year-old Stephen Kiprono was stabbed to death by his gambling mate Elijah Wanjohi alias Rasta after he allegedly resisted to part with Sh20, an amount the two had placed as a bet in a pool table game which the assailant reportedly won.
The assailant was however saved by Administrative Police officers attached at the nearby Bible College AP camp from the wrath of the angry members of the public who wanted to lynch him.
Eyewitnesses told this writer at the scene of the crime that the two middle-aged men who were in the company of other gamblers at the centre were high on drugs before the incident occurred.
Hassan Boit, who runs a cereals shop at the centre, said the diseased had overpowered the assailant in a physical dual after the gambling dispute before the later attacked him using a penknife.
“They were drunk. They also consume marijuana and cigarettes all day long while gambling,’’ said Boit.
Confirming the incident area Chief Leonard Kamau said the suspect and a few others civilians who were involved in the gambling spree were being held at Njoro Police Station to help police in investigations.
The body was taken to Egerton University funeral home awaiting post mortem.#hivisasaoriginal
