Until early last year, it was Raila on the receiving end, being mocked and laughed at, as his supporters were being teargassed for demonstrating against Uhuru's reelection.

Now Uhuru seems more friendly to the ageing Odinga as compared to his deputy and has also been making moves considered to be aimed at crippling Ruto.

A good instance is the recent appointment of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi as the coordinator of government initiatives in cabinet, a role seemingly taken away from the DP.

Ruto's allies have repeatedly raised the alarm that the Raila-Uhuru union is a scheme to isolate the DP, a union that seems to have shoved him to the side to give room for the new romance.

Initially, it was Raila's allies complaining about this or that and severally brought out their supporters to demonstrate when the government refused to heed their advice.

Just like Raila was facing many forces opposed to his presidency hence his numerous losses, Ruto appears like the next patient on the waiting bench.Consequently, he seems all alone, with some members of the team that campaigned against Raila in the 2013 and 2017 polls now turning to him and his 2022 bid.The likes of former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe who were in the front line in campaigning for Uhuru against Raila are now up against Ruto.

Murathe has even vowed to form an entire team of Mt Kenya leaders to fight Ruto's ambition to succeed Uhuru.

Also, he is indirectly the new defacto opposition figure, a post initially held by Raila, and seems to be on the opposing side as Uhuru and the former premier form the other team.Since Raila's truce with Uhuru early last year, Ruto and team have been opposing almost everything done by the two, the latest one being the referendum push. Both the Head of State and the Orange party leader seem in support of the changes as Ruto tries to stop a section of it. Initially, it was Raila opposing the Uhuru-Ruto duo and almost everything they did.
