Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid continue to experience strong criticism, opposition and even huge blows with about three more years to elections.
Contrary to the expectations of many, DP Ruto is facing a strong wave opposition in a section his home region, North Rift.
Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has also been reported to be among those eyeing the top seat in 2022. Adding complications to Ruto’s political arithmetic is the presence of his former allies, legislators who were elected to parliament on the Jubilee tickets who have now being termed as rebels and have also refused to pledge their support to the self-proclaimed Kalenjin Kingpin.
The recent maize scandal at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and the current low maize prices led to the complete fall out between the DP and these 3 MPs;
Alfred Keter.
He is a second term Member of Parliament for Nandi Hills constituency. Keter has been criticizing Ruto and Jubilee’s administration for a long time. Chances are high that he will not campaign for his political mentor during his presidential bid.
Silas Tiren
The Moiben MP was recently quoted saying that he has not decided on whom he will support for the presidency in the coming general elections. He has on several occasions seen together with the Baringo Senator.
Joshua Kutuny
The vocal Cherangany MP made a political comeback in 2017 after being out of parliament for one term. He was known as a close confidant to DP Ruto but his recent moves suggest otherwise. He may end up deserting his political mentor in 2022.
