Allan Wanga edged his name into the history books in the KPL history as one of the persons who doubled up as a coach and player of his own club.
After the dismissal of Ugandan tactician Paul Nkata over match-fixing allegations, Kakamega Homeboyz appointed the former Harambee Stars striker as the interim coach.
The other player-coach in the Kenya Premier League was Allan Thigo. The Kenyan legend played for Gor Mahia and at the same time was the coach as they clinched the premier league unbeaten back in 1976, and later reached the finals of the African Cup winners Cup in 1979 .
Wanga added to the record by scoring a brace on his first ever outing as a player-coach, something that the Gor Mahia legend did not manage.
The former Tusker and AFC Leopards player scored the goals during their match against the Mombasa-based club Bandari, where they won 4-0.
It will, however, be early to predict if Wanga can go on to accomplish much as a player and coach, even though there are signs that he will do well in his position.
Now you know.
