Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary-General Seth Panyako was on Tuesday handed a reprieve after the court pardoned in contempt of Court charges.
Panyako and two other officials were found guilty of failing to avert the nurses’ strike following an order from the court, reports Daily Nation.
The national and county governments had filed a contempt case against Panyako on February 15 after they disobeyed President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive to return to work with immediate effect.
"Obeying court orders is not optional but a requirement to all of us,” Kenyatta had said while directing nurses to resume duty.
Panyako had maintained that they would not return to work unless their demands were given.
The three were asked to appear before the court to respond to charges levelled against them.
While appearing before Labour court Justice Nelson Abuodha, Mr Panyako said the strike had bee suspended.
Justice Abuodha said that the three had been pardoned but he warned them against disrespecting the court order in future.
Nurses had maintained that they would not return to work unless their demands were addressed.
