The current Kenyan Parliament has leaders from various backgrounds, most of whom rose from nothing to something.
The journey of most of them only points to the fact that efforts you put in today will surely pay off tomorrow.
Born in 1951, Seme Member of parliament Dr James Nyikal passed through thick and thin to be where he is today. He did not just wake up and become a Member of Parliament.
Dr Nyikal went to Onjiko and Nakuru Secondary Schools, before studying for medicine at the University of Nairobi and the Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne Australia.
Over the years, the MP served as a medical intern at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (Russia) previously Nyanza General Hospital, Medical officer at the Homa Bay District Hospital and Paediatrician at the Kisii District Hospital.
He announced his bid for the Seme Parliamentary seat in 2012, before winning the seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in 2013.
Nyikal was then re-elected in 2017 on the Orange party ticket.
He previously served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Development and Director of Medical Services in the Ministry of Medical Services.
James Nyikal is a member of the National Assembly’s Committee on health.
