The area's current political dons, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula and opposition co-chief Musalia Mudavadi are seemingly weak and unable to unite, forcing the region to largely rally behind opposition leader Raila Odinga.

As a result, a new leader is likely to erupt and overshadow the two after the election, with the most likely person being sitting Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya who is on the verge of retirement.

Oparanya has since announced his presidential bid in the race, and will obviously use the bid to attract the majority of his tribesmen to his side and is likely to emerge the kingpin.

He is ranked among the best performing county chiefs in a heavily populated county which also doubles up as the Western Province headquarters, proof that he is the best for the job.

He will also face very little or no challenge from Wetangula and Mudavadi, with the Senator having grown weaker in the last few years and Mudavadi being an easy goer and soft speaker who is not good in political duets.

Promising the Luhya the presidency, Oparanya will enjoy a massive following as people troop away from the two who have for a long time failed to deliver the top seat to the region.
