As he eyes the top seat in 2022, here are veteran politicians from the Coast region DP Ruto could pick as his presidential running mate.
1. Najib Balala
The Tourism Cabinet Secretary (CS) is a politician and once served as Mvita Member of Parliament (MP).
There are high chances that Balala could make a return to elective politics once his contract with the Jubilee government ends in 2022.
Should he (Balala) opt to make a return to politics, he will be among the voices to shape Coast politics and could easily be picked as a presidential running mate.
2. Hassan Joho
The Mombasa governor is serving his final term in office and does not enjoy a cordial political relationship with DP Ruto.
But in politics they say there are no permanent enemies and Joho could find himself working with DP Ruto in 2022.
3. Amason Kingi
He is serving his final term in office as Kilifi Governor and has remained silent on succession politics.
Kingi is pushing for Coast to form its own political party ahead of 2022.
With his popularity at the Coast, Kingi is among top politicians DP Ruto could easily pick as his presidential running mate in 2022
It will be interesting to see how DP Ruto moves in picking his presidential running mate and whether he will consider Coast politicians for the position.
