It has emerged that immediately after meeting the Turkana family he was pictured talking to on Monday, Deputy President William Ruto made an immediate order.
The DP was on Monday competing his tour of Turkana county when he reportedly came across the family, and according to Turkana West MP Daniel Epuyo who was present.
The MP who acted as an interpreter between Ruto, area Governor Josphat Nanok and the family of Mr Lowoos Ekebe said that upon learning of the water hardships in the region, Ruto called for immediate drilling of three boreholes.
The MP said that Ruto also directed the Rift Valley Water Services Board to consider establishing an irrigation scheme, after finding the region fertile for farming.
"There should be more boreholes for the hundreds of residents in this region because the whole aquifer has only one that is relied on in testing water quality," the MP quoted Ruto as having said.
"The Deputy President saw for himself that there was arable land that only required irrigation to be productive," he told the Nation on Thursday.
The DP also gave the family some money, and promised to construct a school in the area as the nearest one is kilometres away.
Ruto was concluding his three day tour of the region that saw him launch a number of development initiatives and promised more, a tour that also saw him court Nanok to his side ahead of his 2022 presidential bid.
