Several people were on Tuesday rushed to Matuu General Hospital after a matatu they were traveling in got involved in an accident along Nairobi-Matuu-Thika-road.
The Matatu owned by UMOWA Sacco lost control and rolled several times at Sofia area in Yatta, Machakos County
"We just heard a bang and then we heard people screaming as they rushed to the scene," eyewitness Paul Muli said.
The ill fated Matatu had 42 passengers on board of which several are admitted in the hospital.
"We have received the casualties but they are in a stable condition now," a nurse said.
They spoke to this writer at the health facility on Tuesday.
The driver was blamed for over speeding when the accident happened.
However, the area between Sofia to Matuu town is said to be a blackspot and residents say many accidents have happened in the area.
The matatu was headed to Masinga through Matuu and Ekalakala during the incident.
No death has been reported.
The police have warned the drivers to stop over speeding and avoid driving while drunk to avoid such incidences.
"It seems like every week a new accident is reported in Kenya. Let drivers be cautious and passengers should complain if a driver is drunk and reckless. Let them avoid speeding," said a police officer who requested for anonymity since he is not allowed to talk to the press.
