Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has sent his sent message of goodwill to Harambee Stars, as they prepare to take on Algeria in their opening match of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) later tonight.

In a tweet, the flashy city boss exuded confidence in the national team.

"As we eagerly wait for the Kenya vs Algeria match tonight, I wish the Harambee Stars victory in their Group C opening match. I'm very hopeful our boys will get the three vital points against Algeria," said Sonko.

Sonko further noted that the team posted tremendous results during the qualifiers, adding that he expects them to perform well tonight.

Kenya is in Group C alongside; Algeria, Tanzania and Senegal. 

Surprisingly, all members of the Harambee Stars squad in Egypt have never featured in any AFCON before.

This being their first outing, the players are expected to provide a stellar performance since, foreign scouts and various clubs will be watching out for players to purchase during transfer windows.

The last time Kenya participated in AFCON was in 2015.
