As the race for the 2022 general election continues to shape up, what is emerging is that there are constituencies the ruling Jubilee Party is keen on winning as Kenyans position themselves to elect the country's fifth President.
Deputy President William Ruto, who Kenyans now know will take his first attempt at the presidency is out to ensure Jubilee controls a sizable number of electoral zones in opposition areas to allow him run the government smoothly.
On the former Eldoret North MP's radar are three constituencies in the larger Western zone and they include Mt Elgon in Bungoma County as well as Teso North and Teso South in the far-flung Busia.
Teso North, Teso South and Mt Elgon are on record having elected Jubilee MPs during the 2013 general election and the ruling party will undoubtedly be interested in stamping its authority again there in four years to come. This was despite Teso North and Teso South being areas where opposition leader Raila Odinga scooped over 90 percent of the presidential vote.
It now remains for former MPs Arthur Odera (Teso North) and Mary Emase (Teso South) to reposition themselves, bounce back into the political arena and take on current MPs Geoffrey Omuse and Oku Kaunya of Teso South and Teso North respectively in their bid to clinch back the seats they lost in 2017.
Mt Elgon's Fred Kapondi successfully defended his MP position on August 8th last year.
