Former Garissa County Finance CEC Idriss Muhktar was shot in the head in Kileleshwa in a botched murder attempt on 19, August 2018.
He slipped into a coma after taking a shot fired with lethal intent at his head.
Almost two months have elapsed after that assassination attempt on him.
According to the family, Mr Muktar has never awakened from his state of unconsciousness.
The question of what could be happening to Muhktar in his state is a big one.
Can he hear what's happening around him?
Can he smell?
Is his brain functioning?
These are some of the questions that one might ask.
In 2013, doctors treating a man in a comatose state were surprised to discover that there is little brain activity.
The brain is usually engaged in efforts aimed at protecting itself.
When the brain is in a coma, features of the autonomic nervous system such as breathing and heart-rate continue unabated even though there are some people who may require help to breathe.
Some people who have been in a coma and recover have said that they were able to hear people talk around them and even feel what was being done to their bodies, an indication of a level of alertness during the coma.
A Daily Telegraph writer Geoffery Lean, who recovered from a coma, says that his world was dominated by two colours; just white and black.
He says that he was able to dream even in his state of unconsciousness.
Though he wanted to speak, he could not.
All or some of these things could be happening to Idriss Muhktar.
Hopefully, when he recovers he will be able to relate to the Kenyan public and the people of Garissa what he experienced in his unconscious state.
