In a statement posted on the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) Twitter handle on Wednesday, DPP Noordin Haji confirmed that three candidates had been pre-qualified for the position.

The three are James Muruthi Kihara, Philip Kipchirchir Murgor and Taib Ali Taib.

According to the report, the three emerged the top from a list of 15 applicants who showed interest in joining the panel after a public advertisement of the vacancy on September 25.

This comes only a day after Haji procured the services of British prosecutor Khawar Qureshi to handle the graft case facing Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.

Appearing before the Senate Legal Committee on Wednesday, Haji made it clear that Qureshi will only handle that single case, far from earlier reports that he will also be involved in some of the other pending graft cases.

The move, he said, is aimed at eliminating conflict of interest considering that Mwilu is the second-most highest figure in the Judiciary.

“Owing to the relationship between the ODPP and Judiciary, it was crucial to have a person not clouded by politics,” he is quoted by the Citizen Digital.
