Hours after committing suicide, Joseph Mochere alias Okebiro O'Mose's strained relationship with county boss John Nyagarama has been explained.

Several leaders across Gusii region took to their social media to console the family of the deceased while others made phone calls to his station, Egesa FM.

While Kisii Governor James Ongwae led the troops, his Nyamira counterpart Nyagarama, where Mochere hails from, has been silent despite quoted by a section of media for conveying his condolences.

But a senior government official who spoke in confidence, said the governor's relationship with the deceased was 'strained'.

"You can't expect him to mourn someone who was de-campaigning him in 2017 on the pretext that he's old.

"They never even mourned the governor's son leave alone coming to the funeral as they do to other people," said the senior official.

Also, Nyagarama is reportedly unhappy with Egesa FM, which he says works with opponents to undermine him.

While the station enjoys popularity across Gusii, it has often come under criticism over is alleged bias in reporting.

Mr. Mochere committed suicide in what sources attribute to domestic woes.
