The stage is now set for 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after both France and Belgium emerged winners in their quarterfinals matches played on Friday.
It came as a double joy for Ian Kipchirchir, a staunch supporter of Belgium national team after earning a mouth-watering Sh250,000 in the match between Brazil and Belgium played at Kazan Arena Stadium, Russia.
The third-year student at Moi University, pursuing a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics, said he placed on a live bet market to emerge an own goal.
Ian revealed that after closely following the match live, he got some feelings that a player could direct a goal to his own net and on checking on the odds, he found out that it was going at 12.5.
With his Sh20,000 he had won on the previous bet, the student said he decided to place with all the cash expecting a return of Sh250,000.
It took Ian a thirteen-minute wait and Nacer Chadli swung in the corner from the left only for Fernandinho to send the ball into his own net.
"I couldn't believe that I had won the money until when I withdrew Sh50,000 into my M-Pesa account. I want to really thank Fernandinho for gifting me with the cash," he said.
Ian, born to a single mother said he plans to clear fees arrears, pay rent with the money and some of the remaining amount sent home to his mother.
