Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho has denied he was involved in an altercation with Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday night.
This is after reports emerged that he exchanged harsh words with the DP as they waited to welcome President Uhuru Kenyatta at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Ruto is alleged to have confronted Kibicho demanding to know why he was frustrating his official duties by instructing top security officers in counties to keep off his functions.
The PS, however, has rubbished the reports as rumours peddled by the media, insisting he wasn't involved in a scuffle with the DP.
Kibicho noted that Ruto is his boss, adding that there is no way he could have a quarrel with him.
“How can I have an exchange with the Deputy President? That is a cheap allegation that does not hold any sense,” Kibicho said.
Commenting on the purported incident, city lawyer Wahome Thuku has dismissed the story, which was first published by the People Daily on Friday, saying it was 'half-baked'.
"I don't buy the claims that Kibicho is frustrating the DP by ordering junior administrators to frustrate him. I regard that article as hot from bakery, half-baked," he said.
"Ruto is two ranks above Kibicho. Ruto is the Deputy President. The law is clear that when the President is away, the DP is acting President. He is Kibicho's boss. A boss does not get frustrated by a junior," the lawyer added.
Thuku, a former journalist, further noted that he doubts a politician of Ruto's stature could scold his junior in a public facility such as JKIA.
"No one would expect a man of Ruto's wisdom to ever do that, especially in public. Unless Ruto has lost the grip of power which I believe and we all agree he hasn't," he added.
