Ogalo takes over from Isaiah Osugo who retired from office this year after President Kenyatta extended his term in order to find a suitable replacement.

During the swearing-in ceremony, the President lauded the Commissioner General of Kenya Prisons saying his abilities to transform the prison department should be at the peak given his vast experience.

In a statement,  State House reiterated the need for Ogalo to oversee the rehabilitation process of the prisoners for them to be productive citizens and engage in nation building.

"We want to see you continue with the ongoing reforms. We believe that there is that ability for you and your fellow officers as well as men and women who serve under you to see how the reformed prisoners can positively contribute to the development of Kenya," read the statement.

The reforms in the prisons department were championed by the former Vice President Moody Awori during his term when he was also the Minister for Home Affairs.
