In a bid to improve sports in the country, the Jubilee government promised to ensure that stadiums would be built across the country.

For many Kenyans, that promise appears to have been reneged upon or its fulfilment delayed.

The Deputy President Dr William Ruto weighed in on the frustrations that the stadiums were not up and running as had been promised during a Thursday interview with Kameme FM.

He said that the delays in completing the stadiums were occasioned by the repeat presidential election that saw billions of shillings that had not been budgeted for used.

DP Ruto assured that the stadiums were in different stages of completion.

"Let me tell you, I think I have been asked that question so many times. We have eleven stadiums that are in varying stages of completion. We would have finished them but when we went to the repeat election we spent about 13 billion shillings, money that we had not planned for. That is why there have been delays but they are in different stages of completion," he said

Sports stakeholders have expressed frustrations at the delays and have asked the government to expedite in delivering on its promise.
