Reacting to a Sunday incident where two children were killed by bandits, Rotich asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to visit the area as a sign of his willingness to address insecurity that has been occasioned by rampart cattle rustling.

The two children were pupils at Chesawach and Embomir Primary schools in Endo ward, Marakwet east constituency.

Speaking in Iten town on Monday, the deputy governor expressed concerns that insecurity had turned the fertile Kerio Valley into a battle field.

"Our community has gone through a lot and it's time the national government acted to find a long lasting solution. Kerio Valley is supposed to be feeding the whole country but we've turned it into a battle field," said Rotich.

He challenged leaders from the neighboring Tiaty constituency to have a honest talk with their locals so as to help bring to an end the outdated cattle rustling practice.

"We need to speak the truth and leaders in Tiaty should have a serious conversation with their people even as we also talk to ours. We will not allow the insecurity issue to continue," added the deputy county boss.
