The debate of President Uhuru Kenyatta success has taken a new shape after sections of his Mt. Kenya leaders voiced their concerns over his future after retirement.
Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata said that Uhuru is 'too young to retire' and that he remains the regions kingpin.
"He is still too young to retire. He is our kingpin let's not forget that," said Kang'ata, indicating a possible push to create for him a position.
The MPs have convened in Naivasha where Uhuru's succession is likely to dominate the debate.
An MP privy to ongoing succession battle, says that his colleagues wants to push for creation of Prime Minister post solely for Mr. Kenyatta, who will be 61 after retirement.
"They want to have it in the referendum so that we create the Prime Minister. This will enable Uhuru to be elected by MPs in 2022. We are aware of such plans," said the MP in confidence.
His sentiments seems to match with those of Simba Arati, a close confidant of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
In an interview, Arati said the handshake will enable Raila Odinga become president with Uhuru as his Prime Minister.
"Raila will be president while Uhuru will be his Prime Minister. If you can't agree with that, just get used to it," he said.
But in an interview with the BBC in August, Uhuru denied claims that he would push for amendments of the constitution to extend his stay in power.
