Melida Auma, mother to slain Rongo University Sharon Otieno named the latter's unborn baby ‘Baby Mashaka’ during her (Sharon's) funeral service on Friday October 19, in Magare Village, Homabay village.
And though the Swahili name which translates to problems is rather odd, it emerged the best for the foetus, considering that it was largely attributed to its mother’s death.
The death of Sharon who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death has been largely attributed to her unborn baby, who was reportedly the cause of her murder.
The baby also suffered several stabs in the course of the murder, proof that it might have been the target, and had to be eliminated through the mother.
And since the family lost its firstborn and a mother of three, landing it into a period of mourning and unforgettable pain, the name comes in handy.
The unborn and innocent baby also had to undergo all the pain before its death in the hands of the assailants, another good reason for the name.
Migori Governor Okoth Obado who was romantically involved with Sharon has since been confirmed to have fathered the baby, though he has distanced himself from both deaths.
He was on Wednesday released on a Sh5 million cash bail, as his co-accused Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero remain in custody over the same changes.
