A 40-year-old woman is nursing injuries after she was thoroughly beaten by her husband for allegedly leasing a piece of land without consent.
The incident happened on Monday at Obwari village in North Mugirango, Nyamira County.
Alexinah Kwamboka is said to have leased the land without the knowledge of her husband, Ambrose Masese.
Masese told said he learnt that the land was leased for 2 years at a cost of Sh10,000 when the farmer behind the deal came to cultivate.
“I was shocked when I found someone cultivating my land without my knowledge. Upon questioning my wife, she revealed to me that she had leased the land and used the money to buy clothes. I beat her up for doing things behind my back,” he said.
Mr. Masese said he will never allow his land to be cultivated by anyone while he is alive.
“My wife didn’t come with the land here when I married her 12 years ago. I have never leased the land therefore, I am not going to allow anyone to occupy my land in the name of leasing,” he stated.
Area assistant chief, Simon Obae confirmed the incident saying what Kwamboka did is unacceptable.
“Couples should consult each other before making any decision. The person Kwamboka took money from should find an alternative way of getting the money back since he used a wrong way to get Masese’s land to cultivate,” he said.
