A cabinet secretary is under pressure to explain why he allegedly paid residents of Kakamega town to demonstrate to push for the re-opening of dormant Mumias Sugar Company.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, according to Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala paid youth in Kakamega town to protests against the delayed re-opening the Kenya's largest sugar miller by market share which has been inactive for the last three months.
"The other day I called Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa Mohamed to explain why he is funding demonstrations to push for the re-opening of Mumias Sugar Company. You are a cabinet secretary and every Tuesday you meet the president and the deputy president," Malala said on Saturday in Kakamega town.
"Why don't you write a proposal and forward it to the president and say you want Mumias Sugar revived through the proposal? If you do not know how to write a proposal I am willing to help you to write one and your work will only be to present it to the cabinet."
He said the CS was not genuine in his push for the re-opening of the firm adding that his moves may be political.
Malala said protests will not help push for the re-opening of Mumias Sugar Company.
