Wajir Governor Mohamed Abdi has assured residents that the measles outbreak that has been reported in the county is under control.
The governor says that county officials in collaboration with the national government are successfully battling the viral outbreak.
Speaking to journalists at the Wajir county offices on Monday, the governor asked residents not to fear but exercise precautionary measures.
He confirmed that two people have died since the outbreak was first reported in September last year.
The governor added that 140 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals in the county.
“There is no need for panic because the infection is under control,” he said.
The governor noted that immunisation to combat the further spread of the viral infection is going on.
He said denied claims in some sections of the media that the situation is alarming.
Danaba, Qarsa, Bulla, Hadado, and Bute are areas in Wajir said to be most hit with the outbreak.
The viral measles infection is among the leading causes of death in children.
