Police officers in Homa-Bay County have arrested four armed suspects along Oyugis – Kosele road in Rachuonyo who were impersonating traffic police officers.
The four who were apprehended on Wednesday had carjacked a Shivling Supermarket lorry on Rongo -Kisii highway on the night of Tuesday according to Citizen Digital.
Further reports indicate that they injured Brian Owade, the driver of the lorry.
This is after they stopped the lorry and commandeered it to Nyachenge market in Kisii, before throwing him out.
The driver was rescued by villagers who rushed him to Lwala Dispensary for first aid.
He was later transferred to Kisii County Teaching and Referral Hospital where he is undergoing treatment.
When contacted, Homa Bay County Police Commander Marius Tum confirmed the occurrence of the incident and said the impostors were caught while transferring sugar from the carjacked lorry and loading it into their lorry on Kosele – Oyugis road.
Mr Tum has warned those with similar habits of posing as police officers that their days are numbered and will soon be nabbed.
He expressed concerns over the growing habit of police impostors not only in Homa Bay but across the country.
He asked citizens to be alert and report suspicious individuals to the police or any administrative organ near them.
"This habit has been on the rise across the country and I want to ask wananchi to be keen and report any suspected case to the police and we will move into action swiftly," he said.
