Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohammed has hit out at a section of Jubilee Party leaders criticizing opposition leader Raila Odinga.
The group mostly consisting of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have repeatedly questioned the motive behind Raila's March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Others have accused the former Premier of banking on the same to to turn tables on Ruto ahead of the 2022 general polls, where they are expected to face-off in the presidential race.
But in a rejoinder, Junet has accused Ruto of using his allies to undermine both leaders and their unification campaign founded after the 'handshake'.
He is accusing the DP who only recently pledged support for the reunion of the former political enemies of double standards.
“Ruto was in Kisumu barely two weeks ago and he said proudly that he is supporting the handshake.
He even gave a narrative that when you see Tinga (Raila) on the right side, and Uhuru on the left side, he is in the middle.
“Today they are saying Raila is using the handshake to propel himself to the presidency. Nothing can be further from the truth," he told the Friday Nation.
Junet who doubles up as Director of Elections at Raila's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) faulted leaders claiming that the veteran politician is using the handshake to resurrect himself politically.
He added that the former Raila does not need the handshake to be the next President of Kenya
“Raila does not need the handshake to become president. He is known to have aspired for the presidency many times without the handshake," said Junet.
