A picture of the students doing their assignments outside the school gate was shared widely on social media, eliciting mixed reactions among Kenyans.

In the photo, the students can be seen seated on the grass busy working on their assignments.

According to the school principal Joash Aloo, the students were allowed into the school after they completed the assignment.

"We had an Annual General Meeting on August 2 in which parents asked us to find a way to make the students study during holidays. We agreed to give them assignments that parents will supervise," said Mr Aloo, as quoted by the Nation.

The principal believes such punishments will enable the school to recapture its title as one of the best performing schools in the country.

"Kabianga was once an academic giant so all stakeholders are determined to take it up the chart. We had an agreement on vocational studies; that is why parents and the boys are not complaining about this punishment," he added.
