A 23-year-old man has died after he was electrocuted as he was attempting to connect Kenya Power and Lightning Company's (KPLC) electricity line to his place without permission from the authorities.
According to Rongo Deputy County Commissioner Simon Mukua, the man identified as Jared Okello from Kameji Village in Rongo Sub County was allegedly making an illegal power connection to his house when he was electrocuted.
"We received reports that the man had been electrocuted as he was illegally connecting power to his house. He was rushed to Lwala Health Centre but died while receiving treatment." Mukua said.
Mukua however cautioned locals against making the illegal connections saying it was a health hazard.
"The illegal connections have led to loss of lives in the past and I want to urge locals to desist from such behaviors that may result to deaths." he said.
He urged locals to liaise with KPLC and follow due procedures whenever they want to be supplied with electricity.
Mr Mukua said he had issued an instructions to KPLC officials to arrest those involved in illegal power connections for appropriate legal action.
"We will not hesitate to take necessary actions to anyone involved in such acts and I'm appealing to members of the public to report such cases," he said
The body of the deceased was transferred to Rosewood Mortuary pending an autopsy.
