Buoyed by the Friday's lunchtime meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga at his Karen home, Deputy President William Ruto returned to South Nyanza in style with thousands lining up in roads to greet him.
For years, Ruto has endured hostility in the region that has predominantly voted for Raila for decades after he ditched him for a union with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
But the picture on Monday's meeting was totally different even though virtually all elected leaders apart from Governor Okoth Obado gave it a wide berth.
At Migori airstrip and Masara market, thousands lined up along the roads to usher in the DP with a section of enthusiastic crowd backing his 2022 bid.
Businesses came into standstill for the better part of Monday as Ruto traversed the county that has lately defied Mr Raila Odinga if the recent senatorial by-election is anything to go by.
"I have come here and I will not stop coming. It's time to end persistent politicking and work for the people," he roared amid cheers from the crowd.
And the presence of Governor Okoth Obado even excited the crowd since it was his first public rally since securing bond last week.
He's accused of murdering former Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, who was buried last month on Homa Bay.
The enthusiastic crowd carried placards backing Ruto-Obado ticket in 2022 polls even the two leaders stayed clear off politics.
"I will work with the government to improve the lives of my people. Time for politics is over and it's opportune moment to work for electorates," Obado said.
During the elections in which ODM's Ochillo Ayacko won narrowly, Ruto was accused by the Orange party of allegedly sponsoring youthful politician Eddie Oketch who almost pulled a surprise.
