In a video shared on social media, the country's second-in-command is seen talking with the family.

"Unaitwa Nani? (What's your name?)" He asks.

"Elizabeth, " one member of the family responds.

The Deputy President then digs into his pockets and counts a number of notes which he hands over to one member of the family.

DP Ruto's love affair with roast maize is well known.

Last weekend in Githurai, he bought roasted maize.

Ruto is in Budalangi where he has encouraged the residents to embrace improved water management systems.

Budalangi has long battled with the scourge of floods that lead to loss of life and destruction of property during rainy seasons.

He also launched a 5.8 billion shillings irrigation project.

"Improved water management systems, including irrigation and water harvesting are key to increasing food production and enhancing crop quality. Irrigation supports diversification, which helps meet dietary needs of a growing population; saves labour costs; reduces reliance on rain-fed agriculture and promotes food security. During the launch of the Sh5.8bn, 10,000-acre Lower Nzoia Irrigation Project that will benefit 12,000 households, Port Victoria, Budalangi, Busia County, " he said.
