A day after shortlisting former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru, gender activist Agnes Kagure, lawyers Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru for the Nairobi deputy governor post, a section of Nairobi residents now want Governor Mike Sonko to settle on Wanjiru as his deputy.
In an interview on Thursday, the residents said that Wanjiru has a good development record.
“Governor Sonko and the county assembly should steel on Wanjiru because of her development track record,” Martin Mutinda, a resident said.
Mutinda said that Bishop Wanjiru performed exemplarily when she was Starehe MP and also served as Housing Assistant Minister under the coalition government.
Joyce Waititu, a flower vendor in the city said that Wanjiru understands the issue facing Nairobians.
She said that the Jesus Is Alive Ministries bishop knows every corner of the city and the problems residents are facing.
“Wanjiru will make a good deputy governor and I pray that she is picked,” she said.
Joseph Ndunda, a bodaboda operator, said that Wanjiru has good public relations and knows how to connect with the people.
“She is a people’s leader and will articulate the issues facing Nairobians if she is picked as Sonko’s deputy,” he said.
Ndunda said that Nairobi needs a deputy who will go out and interact with the people and not one who enjoys sitting in the office.
Bishop Wanjiru who lost bid to contest for the Nairobi governor seat in 2017 has welcomed Sonko’s decision to shortlist her.
Wanjiru said that she has big dreams for city dwellers and will deliver if given chance.
