Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, if at all she is serious with her support for Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid may live to regret her political decision.
Jumwa is among MPs from Coast who have openly declared their support for Ruto in 2022 against the principles of the ODM party under whose ticket she sailed through to Parliament on August 8.
But what may be the repercussions of her decision to back Ruto?
Jumwa comes from a region which overwhelmingly supported Raila during the 2013 and 2017 general election and going by the voting patterns of the two elections, the majority of elected leaders there sprinted to victory on opposition party tickets- especially ODM which Raila leads.
It may therefore prove difficult for Jumwa to retain her seat, if at all she will defend her MP seat or if she may decide to run for another elective seat during the 2022 general polls.
The fact that she is supporting Ruto while still in ODM has caused disagreements within ODM with the party's secretary general Edwin Sifuna calling for her punishment.
The ODM party may also be forced to believe that she is a politician who cannot be trusted and on this basis, the party, during its next party primary elections, may decide to support someone else leaving her out.
Most of the leaders from Kilifi County, and in extension Coast region who contested for elective seats on the Jubilee party ticket or any other party that has close ties with the Jubilee party failed during the polls.
These patterns clearly show that Jumwa is playing a delicate card that may cost her re-election come2022.
