Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has reacted to an opinion by controversial political analyst professor Mutahi Ngunyi that he could succeed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga if the ODM leader decides to quit politics.
Kilonzo Junior says it will be an honor for him to succeed the former prime minister.
He, however, noted that Raila is not quitting politics anytime soon.
The senator said he respects Raila, adding that the ODM party leader is one of his political mentors.
“It will be an honor if Raila picks me as his successor because he is one of my greatest mentors,” Kilonzo said.
Kilonzo made the remarks during a live interview on Milele FM breakfast show on Monday.
He, however, said Ngunyi’s statement is a personal opinion.
The legislature said there are many politicians who will be jostling to succeed Raila if he quits politics.
He added that Raila will himself pick his successor the time he agrees to quit active politics.
On Sunday, Professor Ngunyi, known for his tyranny of numbers theory said Kilonzo Junior is among energetic and vocal leaders who have what it takes to fit into Raila’s shoes if he decided to retire.
Kilonzo has been vocal on national issues facing the country.
There are also claims that the second term Wiper senator is eyeing to succeed Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana in 2022 polls.
Kibwana is serving his second and final term, he is likely to endorse the vocal senator for the Makueni gubernatorial seat in the next elections.
