A humanitarian crisis has hit Kibera's Makina area where over 1,000 families were on Monday rendered homeless when the government demolished their houses in a bid to make way for road construction.
Earth movers bagan destroying the homes at around 5am and caught most residents unprepared. Majority could not salvage their belongings.
Among houses set to be demolished include churches, schools as well as NGO offices.
A section of the affected residents have argued that the 14-day notice they were given was too short for a proper relocation.
They condemned the demolitions and claimed they were not fully briefed on the modality of compensation.
Security officers are currently on sight to monitor the demolition exercise.
