Divinah Nyanchama, a resident, said that she was repairing her toilet when her one of her sandals fell into the latrine.

"I was removing my sandal from the toilet using a long stick when I spotted a paper bag with blood stains. I alerted neighbours who came to the scene," she noted.

She said neighbours decided to remove the paper bag to check what was hidden inside.

"The paper bag was removed from the toilet and upon opening it, we found a dead infant," she stated.

Area Nyumba Kumi chairperson Agnes Nyakerario condemned the incident and warned women against procuring abortions and throwing away their babies after birth.

"It is sad that women are dumping their babies so that they can continue with prostitution. I want to reiterate that the days of women dumping babies in toilets are numbered," she said.

Confirming the incident, Nyamira County Commissioner Amos Mariba said the body of the infant was taken to Nyamira County Hospital morgue.

He said investigations have been launched to unmask the culprit who dumped the infant.
