Muli said the commodity used to be Kangundo's 'Gold' a few decades ago.

He said the situation has apparently changed since most coffee farmers are languishing in poverty, they are not seeing the crop's value.

"Coffee farmers are suffering a lot and something needs to be done," Muli said.

Muli addressed the public in his constituency on Sunday.

He said several coffee factories have sunk deep with loans and debts in the constituency.

Muli urged the government to give the coffee farmers a waiver.

He said this would lessen the burden on the back of the crumbling societies.

His sentiments were echoed by Kangundo North MCA John Nzomo who stated that coffee farming will be history in the region if nothing is done.

Machakos County Assembly's Committee on Agriculture had recommended that funds be allocated to the farmers so as to revive the crippling sector.
