On Tuesday, a fake letter allegedly signed by Chief Justice David Maraga was doing rounds on social media claiming Kenyan judges and magistrates are on a go-slow protesting budgetary cuts for the institution by Parliament.

The letter stated that “systemic funds starvation” has left them with no choice other than resulting to industrial action.

However, the Judiciary through its official Twitter handle disowned the letter terming it fake.

Last week, the CJ warned that the budget cut for the Judiciary would cripple its operations.“

In short, we wish to inform the public that while we shall continue doing our best to deliver justice to Kenyans, judicial services will this year be severely affected as a result of the budget cuts. Please bear with us,” remarked Maraga as quoted by Daily Nation.

In the financial year 2018/2019, the National Treasury allocated Sh14.5 billion to the institution against a projected Sh31.2 billion.

Maraga added that efforts to have the matter addressed have not yielded much.

“We have made attempts to reach out to the concerned authorities but we have not been successful,” stated the CJ.
