His physically imposing figure, his venomous tongue and his outspokenness is what defines Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi.
Though he is a rookie in politics, Atandi is conducting himself like a man with 30 years experience in politics. In short, he has mastered the game very fast and that could be key to his own political survival.
For a man who doesn’t shy away from speaking his mind, however, controversial he may be, the former NIC Bank employee is his own league. His brand of politics could be likened to that of South Africa’s EFF leader Julius Malema.
Over the past few months, Atandi has been Deputy President William Ruto’s fiercest critic, pouring cold water on his 2022 presidential ambitions.
Just recently, he was at the centre of a storm where the lawmaker reportedly confronted Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa, a close Ruto ally, at Kisumu Airport following the CS’s derogatory comment against ODM leader Raila Odinga. The confrontation nearly resulted into a fist-fight.
Today, the Alego Usonga MP is one of the most outspoken lawmakers in Nyanza. And Going forward, the Egerton University-trained communication expert is the man to watch in the region’s political circles.
