President Uhuru is under pressure from Jubilee leaders to back DP William Ruto while some sections of ODM leaders hope he will reciprocate the same to Raila Odinga.

But in Nyamira, the opposition team seems to be secretly lobbying for Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, arguing that he's fit to take over.

Governor John Nyagarama on Friday said Matiang'i's output as minister should be rewarded by Kenyans for top seat, sentiments which were echoed by other leaders.

"The minister has done well in all dockets he has worked. It's time for the country to reward him in the top seat. As a community, we are solidly behind him," he said.

"Nothing shall stop us from pushing for his candidature. He has lifted the name of Omogusii and this is the time to gift him with the leadership of the country," added Senator Okong'o Mogeni.

Senator Sam Ongeri of Kisii also joined the calls, arguing that Abagusii community should go for the top leadership. He however, asked leaders to support the president's fight against corruption.

"As a community, we shall field him or someone else. However, let's fight for development. This is the most critical thing for us now."

Also supporting the move were Speaker Moffat Teya, Woman Representative Janet Ong'era and Ford Kenya MP Richard Onyonka of Kitutu Chache South.
