The former Gatanga parliamentarian made the announcement as he announced his resignation from the party leadership slot on Sunday.

However, he added that he is not operating as anyone's mouthpiece in his recent attacks on Ruto, including his call for the DP to retire from the race, terming it his own stand.

He rubbished claims and thoughts that he could be representing President Uhuru Kenyatta with whom he is politically close.

He expressed his disappointment that some people are dragging Uhuru's name into his personal stand and opinion.

"When I speak, I speak only as David Murathe and any views I have are my own. I do not take a brief from anyone and I am disappointed that people are trying to construe this as the position of President Uhuru Kenyatta," he was quoted by the Standard.

Murathe shot to the controversy on Wednesday, December 26 when he made it clear that Ruto should not expect the Central Kenya vote in 2022.

This was contrary to an initial announcement by the president in the run-up to the 2013 and 2017 elections.

He has maintained that he is willing to go as far as the Supreme Court to prevent the DP from vying again, saying that he has served his two presidential terms.
