A Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) National Executive Council (NEC) meeting where the fate of the union boss Wilson Sossion was to be decided has been postponed.
This comes amid pressure on the Secretary-General to vacate the position, only weeks after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) struck his name off the registry of teachers.
But Sossion on Monday postponed the meeting that was scheduled for Thursday to a later date, without giving reasons behind the postponement or the new date for the meeting.
“You are hereby notified that the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 29, has been postponed,” he said in a letter dated August 26 that was quoted by Daily Nation.
In the meeting, the 39 council members were to decide the fate of Sossion, a week after they advised him to either resign or be pushed out of office.
During the meeting which he snubbed, it was agreed that he exits office since he is no longer a teacher.
As per the constitution of the union, Sossion's removal from the list of teachers automatically withdraws his name from that of union members, putting his leadership in question.
"Persons eligible for membership of the union shall be only those who are or have been regularly and normally engaged as a teacher," reads KNUT constitution in part.
