Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollo has welcomed census results released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Monday.
The statistics indicated that Kenya currently stands at a population of 47.6 million, having increased four times from 1969, where the population was 10.9 million.
While a number of politicians have come out to dispute the numbers, most of them complaining of manipulation of numbers, Amollo has welcomed the findings.
Speaking on NTV on Tuesday, he observed that the data is more credible than that of the previous census in 2009, which he dismissed as a sham.
"The Census of 2019 results is by and large more credible than what we had in 2009 because what we had in 2009 was a pure sham," said the lawmaker.
Amollo observed that the government has put in enough effort in bringing out the actual numbers of Kenyans, doubling it up by releasing the numbers early enough.
According to him, it's now upon Kenyans to scrutinize the numbers before disputing them, adding that anyone unhappy with the data should challenge it with enough evidence.
"If anyone has any legitimate reason to believe that this report does not support the reality he/she should state clearly why they are disputing these results," he added.
