A probe into the brutal murder of Rongo University Student Sharon Otieno has gained momentum after the grilling of Migori Governor Okoth Obado.

Speaking to the journalists on Wednesday after being grilled at the at the Nyanza DCI offices on Tuesday, Obado urged his supporters and well-wishers from all over the country to pray for him during this moment. 

The governor thanked the electorate but maintained that he has nothing to do with the killers of Otieno, who was seven months pregnant. He went on to urge the government and security agencies to speed up the investigations into the murder of the second year student.

 “My supporters,  the general public and also the well-wishers who have been with me in prayers that they should continue praying for me throughout all these endeavours,” Obado said in part. 

The call comes after it emerged that Michael Juma Oyamo, the key suspect in the gory murder, was once Obado’s student at St Joseph's Rapogi High School.  

Former students at the institution, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that Oyamo was the governor’s best student in Physics. 

Obado, who graduated from Kenyatta University, had been posted to the institution to somewhere in the 90’s to teach accounting and physics.  Obado has now been directed to undergo a DNA test as the paternity of the Otieno’s unborn child remain an issue of concern in the case.   

Oyamo allegedly lured Nation journalist Barack Oduor and Otieno before their abduction. Otieno’s body was later found in Kodera Forest. Oduor reportedly escaped death after jumping out of the assailants' car. 

postmortem examination report revealed that she was strangled, stabbed eight times and raped before she passed on. The reported also showed that the fetus was equally stabbed to death by the assailants.
