Dr Fred Matiang'i has launched a scathing attack of civil rights activists, insisting that they are broke thus their decision to move to court to block digital registration of people.
In a passionate appeal to members of Gusii community at Egesa FM on Tuesday, Matiang'i insisted that the planning of Huduma Number registration started in 2017 thus the claims by human rights watch are unfounded.
"We started the process in 2017 by stating the essentials. We moved to parliament and asked for funding and we were given Sh7 billion for the exercise. A law to protect it was enacted. It's not a new thing," he said.
Dr Matiang'i asked people to turn out in large numbers and participate in the exercise, noting that all chiefs have received a kit and have since recruited five people per sub location to take charge.
"Our people don't be cheated. This process cannot be stopped. Just come out and register. The Huduma Number will reduce the number of documents you will carry every day. That is a fact."
He added: "I am shocked that those girls (human rights activists) have moved to court. But they are broke and must do that to survive. I really pity them so much."
The exercise is scheduled to kick off across the country from this April and will last for one month. Dr Matiang'i said it will improve service delivery to the people of Kenya.
