Mombasa Governor Hassan Ali Joho weighed in on the vexed issue of the intended privatisation of the second container of the Mombasa Port.
Speaking at the Treasury Square on Wednesday during this year's Eid Baraza, the county boss said that he will continue to voice his opposition to the privatisation in a respectful manner.
He said that he would seek to have a sitting with President Uhuru Kenyatta over the matter when he gets back to the country from Canada where he is attending a forum on women empowerment.
"We will continue to say that we are against the privatisation of the port. We will sit with the President when he comes back and tell him our reasons for our opposition and then he will tell us his, " Governor Joho said.
The government says that the intended privatisation of the port is aimed at streamlining its operations.
People from the coastal region led by Governor Joho have railed against the move, saying that they stand not to benefit.
The Port of Mombasa handles tonnes of cargo annually and takes in billions of shillings for the government in revenue.
Residents of Mombasa have long called for the government to ensure that they benefit more from the facility.
A section of legislators from the coast have vowed to use all means at their disposal to block the privatisation.
