Paul Chepkwony, a second term governor for Kericho, in a suit filed on behalf by lawyer Paul Wanyama, argues that the evictions are illegal.

A source privy to the operations said President Uhuru Kenyatta stopped the second phase albeit secretly on Tuesday following an outcry from Rift Valley leaders.

In his suit, Chepkwony has names Land Cabinet Secretary Faridah Karoney, Interior's Fred Matiang'i and Narok County Commissioner George Natembeya as respondents.

Also, Chepkwony accuses the government of inhumane treatment to settlers including burning of their properties.

Over 50,000 people have already been flushed out of the water catchment region even as leaders from Kalenjin community led by Kipchumba Murkomen accused the government of unfair treatment.

During his tour in Narok in June, DP William Ruto assured locals that the government will flush those living beyond the cut line in the region.

Mr. Chepkwony has lately been warming for Gideon Moi's camp ahead of 2022 polls.
