An MP has linked the recent arrest of electricity distributor Kenya Power's top managers to 2022 politics saying the development targets Deputy President William Ruto.
Belgut MP Nelson Koech said on Tuesday that the top managers were targeted because some of them are close to the deputy president, adding that the move may be meant to "torture him (Ruto) psychologically".
The MP who was speaking to Radio Jambo in an interview, however, said those out to frustrate the DP's bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022 will fail.
"Those arrested come from where the deputy president comes from and there is no doubt that there is politics attached to the arrests," Koech said.
He said Ruto's leadership style has been tested calling on Kenyans to rally behind the DP when 2022 comes.
Among those recently arrested include former Chief Executive Ben Chumo who comes from Kipkabus village in Uasin Gishu, Ruto's home county. Another top official who comes from Rift Valley who was arrested was Managing Director Ken Tarus.
The managers have been linked to the rot at Kenya Power which climaxed at the procurement of substandard transformers to the tune of Sh470 million.
The officials were also accused of irregularly prequalifying 525 companies contracted to offer labour and transport services.
