Mutua said the attack is a cowardly act, stating that it will not instill fear among Kenyans in any way.

He condoled with the victims' families and urged Kenyans to put them in prayers during this tough moment.

“Saddened by the attack against us. Their hate will never break our spirit nor change our love for each other and for humanity. My condolences and prayers to the families affected. Let us stay strong. Good job Kenyan security team,” he twitted on Tuesday.

The suspected Al Shabaab militiamen reportedly forced their way into the building at about 15:00 pm local time.

They allegedly threw several bombs at hotel’s car park before they made their way into the facility and started shooting at everyone mercilessly.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet told reporters that one of the attackers blew himself up during the attack at the facility.

A contingent of police officers swiftly arrived at the scene to counter-attack the culprits.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i assured survivors and the rest of Kenyans that everything was under control.
