The Kiambu Governor was born in 1962 and raised up in Nairobi’s Kibera slums.

He joined active politics in 2002 and has fought his way to top county leadership.

The county boss has however been caught up in controversial scenarios, sometimes being arrested and charged in court.

Here are the top positions Waititu held before being elected Kiambu governor in the 2017 general election.

1. Councillor – Njiru ward 

Waititu’s political journey started in the 2002 general election when he was elected as a councillor for Njiru ward.

He won the councillor ticket on a KANU party ticket.

2. Deputy Mayor - 2004

Waititu was elected as Nairobi Deputy Mayor in 2004, a position he served until 2007 before he contested for the Embakasi parliamentary seat.

3. Embakasi MP

In 2008, Waititu was elected as Embakasi MP in a by-election defeating Ether Passaris of ODM.

4. Assistant Minister- Water 

In 2009, Waititu was appointed by retired President Mwai Kibaki as Water Assistant Minister.

In 2013, Waititu declared interest in the Nairobi gubernatorial election but lost to former Governor Evans Kidero.

5. Kabete MP

In 2015, Waititu contested in the Kabete by-election after the demise of George Muchai.

He won the seat on a Jubilee Party ticket.

In the 2017 general election, Waititu shocked many when he defeated former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo in the hotly contested gubernatorial election.

His administration has however been put on the spot over alleged poor service delivery.

Governor Waititu, however, says that he is focused on serving Kiambu residents and will not listen to propaganda.
